She Watches From A Distance

Bare foot, clad in white,

She watches from a distance,

Skin pale, her frame gaunt,

I steal a glance, she shrinks.

Dark eyes appear, a skeletal hand,

Curious and scared, childlike.

White waves crash below, great sadness

trembles through soul.

‘Swim back to me’,

Solitary tear flecks cheek,

As I sense her return.

Muddy hem of her dressing gown, trails behind,

Close my eyes, soft brush of cloth,

Eyelids slide open, grey gown spirals past,

Down below, black shadow fades beneath waves.
